In 2015, for several past sexual assaults against males in Essex and northwest London, Father Christopher Bosworth, a former Catholic priest and mental health nurse, was imprisoned for more than 14 years.

Detectives from Essex Police arrested Christopher Bosworth at his Welsh home in September 2012 after he was accused of sexual assault in the 1980s.

Bosworth, then 57, of Tycroes’ Cae Greynor, was found guilty on three counts of indecently assaulting a man, one crime of indecently assaulting a man, two counts of conspiring to sexually assault a man, one count of sexually assaulting a man, and one count of perverting the course of justice.

In the 1980s and 1990s, the four victims under inquiry lived in the Willesden and Kingsbury neighbourhoods of London and the Wickford neighbourhood of Essex.

Bosworth was a mental nurse in Kingsbury when he committed crimes against two of the male victims, according to information presented before Basildon Crown Court. At the time of the crimes, he was a Catholic priest in Willesden.

After a three-week trial at Basildon Crown Court, he was found guilty despite denying the accusations.

Detective Sergeant Danny Walker of the Rayleigh-based Sexual Offences Investigation Team then honoured the four victims.

He stated, “They demonstrated tremendous bravery by coming forward and testifying against the defendant who had exploited his position to sexually abuse them when they were vulnerable.

The severity of the crimes and their effects on the victims are appropriately reflected in the punishment imposed.
