In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Roman Krok, then 18, of Holcombe Street, Normanton, Derby, was sentenced to four years and nine months in a young offender institution at Derby Crown Court. Krok, a “vile” and “vicious” predator, carried out a “barbaric” and “serious” attempted rape of a 14-year-old girl. The investigation by Derbyshire Constabulary revealed that Krok followed the petrified teenager through Sherwood Recreation Ground, near Pear Tree railway station, on 7 August 2018.

The court heard horrendous details of the “vicious” attack, during which Krok pushed the girl against a fence and a van, attempting to violate her three separate times. During the “depraved” assault, he vilely told the victim, “I can tell you’re a virgin,” and “I love you, we could get married.” The prosecution emphasised that the victim was “frozen in shock” and “absolutely terrified,” with the trauma causing her lifelong distress, affecting her sleep, and making her fear attending church in Derby.

Krok, who moved to the UK from Slovakia aged 10, was reported to have a “disturbing attitude” towards women and a “serious” criminal history, including robbery and a previous sexual assault on a school pupil when he was just 12. At the time of the “vile” park attack, he was already on bail for another robbery. Judge Shaun Smith QC emphasised that the “vicious” nature of the prolonged attack would haunt the victim for a “long, long time,” noting that Krok’s behaviour showed a complete lack of sexual boundaries.

As a result of his guilty plea to attempted rape, Roman Krok was jailed for four years and nine months. He was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life and was handed a seven-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). He is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Derbyshire Constabulary. A decision regarding his deportation was referred to the Home Office. Any further “vicious” behaviour or presence in Normanton, Derby, or elsewhere will result in his immediate arrest and return to custody.
