In 2026, the Offender Database reported that a British Essex deviant, Oaveed Rahman, then 26, of Hope Road, Crays Hill, Billericay, pleaded guilty at Basildon Crown Court to 11 counts of fraud by false representation and one count of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal. Rahman, who operated under the name “Save a Paw,” was the subject of a vicious and serious investigation after the horrendous discovery of 37 dog carcasses at his property. The cruelty charge accounts explicitly for his “vile” treatment of 21 dogs and a cat found at the scene.
The investigation, conducted by Essex Police in collaboration with the RSPCA and Basildon Council, was launched in May 2025 following reports received concerning the Crays Hill premises. A thorough search of the land uncovered the remains of dozens of deceased dogs, some in such a state of decomposition that identification was impossible. Several living animals were rescued during the raid and required immediate veterinary treatment. Meanwhile, detectives reported that Rahman had defrauded owners by taking money for training and rescue services that he never intended to provide.
During the hearing on 12 January 2026, the court heard horrific accounts from devastated pet owners. Hayley Lucas, who travelled from Scotland, and Michelle Halliday, from Leeds, were among those who believed they were leaving their pets in a “perfect” environment, only to discover later their dogs had likely perished in Rahman’s care. Judge Samantha Cohen warned the “vicious” predator that “vile” crimes of this nature almost certainly warrant immediate custody, emphasising the serious breach of trust and the “abhorrent” suffering inflicted on the animals in Billericay, Essex.
As a result of his guilty pleas, Oaveed Rahman has been remanded in custody and is set to be sentenced at Basildon Crown Court on 20 February 2026. While the case against his co-defendant, Greta Csikos, was discontinued, Rahman faces a substantial prison term for the “sickening” scale of his cruelty and fraud. He will be managed under strict supervision upon release, and Essex Police remain committed to ensuring justice for the victims in Crays Hill and beyond. Any further violent or predatory behaviour towards animals or the community in Billericay or Basildon will result in his immediate arrest.
