A big part of the reason that the USA sex offender register works is that anyone, of any age, can access the records and can search for anyone they may have come into contact with or may be thinking of or beginning a relationship of any kind with too.
Imagine, in the UK, if there was an open, public, sex offender register and the young girls targeted by the Grooming Gangs could search online to see if any of their new contacts are paedophiles.
We know, from doing this for some time now, that under-18-year-olds make up a large part of the population that searches our records in the Offender Register and Offender Database.
Facebook have decided that under-18s should not be encouraged to view our Page or the information within, which we find jaw-dropping, as this Page and its content do not break any Community Guidelines, and there is no way to get a manual review.
And don’t get us started on the ridiculous “process” to get a well-known paedophile removed from Facebook with a list of proof as long as our arms!
So if you are under 18 and type into search a term like “search uk paedophiles” on Facebook, we will not come up.
Great news for sex offenders, though.
