In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Jason Mark Le Chevere, then 43, of St Saviour, Jersey, was sentenced to 15 years in prison at the Royal Court. Le Chevere, a “vile” and “vicious” predator, was convicted of two counts of rape and 11 indecent assaults against two victims who were both under the age of 13 at the time of the abuse. The investigation by the States of Jersey Police followed a “serious” four-day trial where jurors heard horrendous evidence of a prolonged campaign of sexual violence.

The court heard horrific details regarding the impact of Le Chevere’s “depraved” actions. Described as an “alpha male” with a “vicious” temper, he was reported to have used fear to keep his victims silent, with one victim describing the abuse as an attempt “to break her.” The survivors, who were “terrified” of him, now suffer from severe anxiety, low self-esteem, and frequent flashbacks. Clinical psychologists reported that both girls are at high risk for long-term psychological difficulties, including self-harm and a deep-seated mistrust of adults.

Commissioner Sir John Saunders, while delivering the sentence, reported that the girls had “suffered greatly” and would likely carry the scars of Le Chevere’s “vile” crimes for the rest of their lives. One victim shared a brave and “harrowing” impact statement, expressing her fear that the abuse had ruined her ability to ever form a healthy relationship or have children of her own. The prosecution emphasised that Le Chevere’s “vicious” disregard for the innocence of children made him a serious danger to the community in St Saviour.

As a result of his convictions for rape and indecent assault, Jason Mark Le Chevere was jailed for 15 years at La Moye Prison. He was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life and remains under intensive supervision. He is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by the States of Jersey Police, ensuring that his movements in St Saviour and across the island are strictly monitored upon any eventual release. Any further predatory behaviour or breach of his lifelong registration requirements will result in his immediate arrest and return to custody.
