On Friday, 9 January 2026, the Offender Database reported that Jay Hamilton, 42, of Lowther Street, Carlisle, was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison at Carlisle Crown Court. Hamilton, a repeat offender, was convicted of possessing nearly 1,000 indecent images of children and repeatedly breaching the terms of his court-ordered monitoring.

The court heard that Hamilton’s offending was uncovered during a proactive visit by Cumbria Constabulary’s MOSOVO (Management of Sexual Offenders and Violent Offenders) team on 27 November 2025. During the check, officers discovered several internet-enabled devices that Hamilton had attempted to conceal. A subsequent forensic examination revealed 934 indecent images of children, including 397 Category A images—the most severe classification of child abuse material. Investigations also found that Hamilton was using multiple online aliases and dating sites, which he had failed to disclose to his offender managers.

Hamilton pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images, three counts of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), and failing to comply with sex offender notification requirements. Detective Constable Jess Myers emphasised that Hamilton was fully aware he was violating his legal orders, noting that the MOSOVO team’s rigorous management is vital for holding such individuals accountable.

Jay Hamilton was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison. The judge noted that his deceptive behaviour and the high volume of Category A material demonstrated a persistent risk to children.

As a result of his repeat offending and possession of serious child abuse material, Hamilton remains on the Sex Offenders Register for life. He is managed under the highest level of Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) in Cumbria. This framework ensures that upon his release, the Cumberland MOSOVO team will maintain intensive monitoring of his residency and digital activities, with any future attempt to hide devices or social media accounts resulting in immediate recall to prison.
