In January 2026, the Offender Database reported that Daniel Phillips, 33, of Bridlington, East Riding of Yorkshire, was sentenced at Hull Crown Court for a series of predatory sexual offences against a child. Phillips, a former primary school teacher, was found guilty of using his position of trust to groom and abuse a young victim over several years.

The court heard that the paedophile targeted a primary school-aged girl, subjecting her to repeated acts of sexual assault and inciting her to engage in sexual activity. The investigation by Humberside Police began in 2024 after the victim disclosed the abuse to a family member. Detectives uncovered a “calculated campaign of grooming,” during which Phillips utilised his professional status to manipulate both the victim and her parents. Forensic analysis of his electronic devices also revealed that he had been searching for child abuse material online to satisfy his “perverted sexual desires.”

During the trial at Hull Crown Court, the prosecution described Phillips as a “vile predator” who had caused irreparable psychological harm to a vulnerable child. Judge John Thackray KC, presiding over the case, noted that Phillips’s conduct was a “gross breach of trust” and that he posed a significant ongoing risk to children. The victim, now receiving specialist support, provided a harrowing impact statement detailing how the abuse had “stolen her childhood.”

On January 5, 2026, Daniel Phillips was sentenced to 14 years in prison. The judge emphasised that the lengthy sentence was intended to reflect the public’s revulsion at his crimes and to ensure he is removed from society for a substantial period. He was also handed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which includes a lifelong ban from working with children or in any educational setting.

As a result of his convictions for the rape and sexual abuse of a child, Phillips has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life. He is managed under the highest level of Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Upon his eventual release, he will be subject to strict, permanent monitoring by Humberside Police and the National Probation Service, and his name has been added to the Barred List, preventing him from ever teaching again.
