In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Anthony Vowles (also known as Anthony Ronald Vowles), then 31, of Midway Avenue, Bridlington, was set for release following two separate prison sentences totalling 11 years for the rape and sexual abuse of young boys. Investigators characterised Vowles as a highly dangerous predator who exploited the innocence of vulnerable children for his own sexual gratification.
The court heard that in May 2014, Anthony Vowles was initially sentenced to nine years in prison at York Crown Court. He had pleaded guilty to eight counts of sexual activity with a boy under the age of 13 and four counts of inciting sexual activity with a child. These offences occurred between July 2013 and January 2014 in the Filey area. The abuse only came to light when the 12-year-old victim found the courage to tell his parents, leading to Vowles’ arrest in Bridlington.
While serving his initial sentence, Anthony Vowles was brought back to court in 2015 to face further charges involving a second victim. He admitted to eight additional sexual offences against another 12-year-old boy in Bridlington. These charges included two counts of rape, one count of inciting a child into sexual activity, and five counts of sexually assaulting a child. Consequently, he was handed an additional three-year consecutive sentence, bringing his total time behind bars to 11 years (accounting for the concurrent nature of some charges).
Upon his release in early 2019, Anthony Vowles became subject to lifelong notification requirements on the Sex Offenders Register. He is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA), which involves close supervision by the police and probation services to monitor his movements and minimise the risk of reoffending.
