In 2022, Martin Read, the Oldham Rapist, was incarcerated for the assault and subsequent rape of a woman during a brutal alcohol-induced attack.

Martin Read, 52, had consumed alcohol before initiating the ‘spontaneous’ assault on his victim at a location in Oldham.

Subsequently, as she attempted to escape, he pursued her to her residence and commenced pounding on her windows prior to the police being summoned.

Martin Read confessed to his offences immediately upon his detention.

Martin Read’s demeanour abruptly shifted, and he commenced exhibiting aggression towards the victim immediately before he assaulted her on Friday, September 18, 2020, stated prosecutor Adam White.

He seized her by the hair and forced her against a coffee table, then restraining her again and delivering a headbutt to her face.

Martin Read then chillingly told her: ‘I don’t care if you don’t want to have sex, you’re going to do it anyway’, Mr White said.

The court was informed that she attempted to ‘appease’ him to facilitate an escape.

However, after briefly ascending the stairs at the property, he returned unclothed.

At this juncture, Martin Read compelled her head towards him and coerced her into performing oral sex for a duration of up to three seconds, Mr White stated.

Subsequently, she successfully fled; nevertheless, Martin Read pursued her and commenced pounding on the windows of her residence, which compelled her to dial 999.

Martin Read returned to his residence, where he was apprehended.

The woman experienced facial oedema.

In a brief victim personal statement, she expressed that it had left her feeling “sorrowful, distressed, and fearful.”

In Honeywell Lane, Oldham, Martin Read has eight prior convictions.

Martin Read made “full admissions” during his police interview and pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH) and rape at the earliest opportunity.
