A Chaddesden Rapist from Derby, Michael James, perpetrated a “brutal” sexual assault on a woman he had recently encountered in bushes in Chaddesden.
Derby Crown Court was informed that Michael James’ victim continuously implored him to cease, yet resigned herself to the reality of his superior stature, believing it would exacerbate the situation.
The 25-year-old from Chaddesden, Michael James, subsequently deceived the police by asserting that the encounter was consensual, before forcing the victim to recount her trauma while testifying at a trial.
The victim stated that she was unable to face her reflection and first held herself accountable for the incident. Imposing a 13-year prison sentence on the defendant, Recorder Richard Paige stated: “This was a heinous rape, and notwithstanding the circumstances, she exhibited commendable courage by promptly reporting it to the police.”
Michael James, residing on Meath Avenue, refuted any wrongdoing. After reviewing all the evidence, the jury unanimously convicted him of two counts of rape, one count of attempted rape, and one count of assault by penetration.
In addition to the incarceration, the judge mandated the defendant’s lifelong registration as a sex offender. The 13-year sentence comprises 10 years in jail followed by a three-year extended licence.
Michael James will not qualify to petition for parole until two-thirds of the 10-year jail sentence has elapsed.
