Marvin Scampion, a Spalding paedophile convicted of sexual offences against two children, including one count of attempted rape, has been sentenced to 19 years in prison.

Marvin Scampion, residing on Edward Road in Spalding, was found guilty of nine offences following a two-week trial at Lincoln Crown Court in March.

The jury acquitted the 48-year-old of one sexual assault charge following six hours of deliberation. Following the guilty verdicts, Scampion was promptly sent into custody to await sentencing.

Marvin Scampion was apprehended in January 2020 following disclosures made by one of the victims at school. Their identities, which must remain confidential, were preserved as both victims provided testimony in court.

Marvin Scampion was found guilty of four sexual crimes against a male minor under the age of 13 from April 2008 to December 2011.

The charges comprised attempted rape, sexual assault, causing a kid to observe a sexual act, and inducing a boy under 13 to participate in sexual behaviour.

Marvin Scampion was convicted of two counts of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13 through touching and two counts of engaging in sexual behaviour in the presence of a child.

The four charges transpired between January 2015 and July 2016.

Marvin Scampion was also convicted of a single charge of cruelty to a child aged under 16 when he produced a knife.

He will be added to the sex offenders register for life and must also serve an extended licence period of 12 months on his release from prison.

He was also given an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and a restraining order which prevents any contact with the victims.

Detective Constable Caroline Pendell, who led the investigation, said: “This investigation spanned five years and a lot of work that started with the voice of two vulnerable children and has resulted in their voice very much being not only heard but listened to.

“Their courage, bravery and patience throughout the investigation with the support not only of their family but also the Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (IVSA) who were with them from report to court and the sentencing today. This investigation was very much team-centred with many agencies working together helping those involved to achieve this outcome.

“I would encourage anyone who has been subject to any type of abuse to have confidence in taking the first step and confide in someone whom you feel comfortable with, whether it be a friend, relative, sexual assault referral centre, or the police.

“This investigation has taken a long time, of which the pandemic played a part, as have backlogs with the courts, but it has been thorough, with no line of enquiry left unexplored. The brave young man and woman who attended court today have left as survivors and can now today start to rebuild their lives with the knowledge their assailant can no longer hurt them or any other child whilst he serves his sentence”.
