Timothy Pavitt, aged 73, of Boxworth End, Swavesey, Cambridgeshire, has been sentenced to four years and eight months’ imprisonment at Peterborough Crown Court after pleading guilty to 18 offences relating to online child sexual exploitation.
The investigation was launched in 2024 after law enforcement officers identified child abuse material being uploaded to an account on the messaging platform Kik.
Cambridgeshire Police traced the IP address directly to Pavitt’s home address, leading to his arrest on 19 February 2025.
During police interviews, Pavitt claimed he was “lonely” and had turned to online chat rooms to speak with children and download illicit material.
Specialist digital forensic investigators conducted an examination of his seized devices, recovering:
- More than 350 indecent images of children
- Transcripts of sexually explicit communications directed at accounts he believed belonged to young children
- Messages coordinating and arranging physical, in-person meetings with individuals he believed were children
- Forensic evidence demonstrating the active transmission and distribution of abuse imagery to other internet users
The authentic identities of the profiles Pavitt was communicating with have never been confirmed.
Pavitt appeared at Peterborough Crown Court on 21 September, where he admitted 18 counts, including engaging in sexual communication with children, making indecent images of children, and distribution offences.
Sentencing him, the judge imposed an immediate custodial sentence of four years and eight months (56 months).
The court also made Pavitt subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) containing strict terms regarding internet access and device monitoring.
Detective Sergeant Zip Lloyd of Cambridgeshire Police remarked following the hearing: “Pavitt knew what he was doing was wrong but continued to seek out users he believed were children, encourage sexual conversations and make indecent images. He was also actively sharing those images for others to view, further fuelling the exploitation of children. I am pleased he is now behind bars. Protecting young people from harm is one of our top priorities and we will continue to work tirelessly to keep children safe.”
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation governing standard determinate sentences of less than seven years, early release provisions apply at the halfway mark. Pavitt is required to serve two years and four months (28 months) in prison custody before becoming eligible for statutory release on licence under the supervision of the Probation Service.
