A 57-year-old Wiltshire man has been remanded into custody after entering guilty pleas at Swindon Crown Court to multiple counts of historic child sexual abuse and failing to comply with sex offender register requirements.

Terry Edwards, residing at Wells Street, Swindon, appeared in the dock on Tuesday 3 November 2026 to answer an indictment detailing serious non-recent sexual offences and statutory order non-compliance.

The prosecution arose following an extensive investigation conducted by Wiltshire Police’s Management of Sexual or Violent Offenders (MOSOVO) team. The court heard that between 1995 and 2001, Edwards carried out repeated sexual offences against two young female children known to him. The charges were brought under the historic statutory offence of indecent assault, the legal classification applicable at the time the conduct occurred.

Edwards, who was already a registered sex offender due to a prior conviction for indecently exposing himself, was also investigated for evading public protection oversight. In addition to the abuse charges, Edwards admitted failing to comply with his statutory annual and change-of-circumstances notification duties under the Sex Offenders Register.

Before Swindon Crown Court, Edwards formally entered guilty pleas to:

Three counts of indecent assault

One count of breaching the notification requirements of the Sex Offenders Register

PC Katie Owers, from Wiltshire Police’s MOSOVO team, commended the survivors for their resolve:
“This is an awful case in which Edwards has sexually abused two young girls known to him. I want to take this opportunity to recognise and commend the incredible bravery of the victims involved in this case. They have gone through significant trauma and they have shown tremendous strength and courage throughout the investigation, helping to secure this conviction of Edwards. I hope this case reassures others who may have experienced similar offences that they will be listened to, taken seriously, and supported, no matter when the abuse took place. We will always investigate historic abuse and work tirelessly to bring offenders to justice.”

Under the provisions of the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 1992, both female victims are protected by mandatory, lifelong statutory anonymity. Any publication, broadcast, or public dissemination of information capable of leading to their identification is strictly prohibited under UK law.

Following the entry of his guilty pleas, the presiding judge remanded Edwards into custody, where he will remain until his formal sentencing hearing at Swindon Crown Court on 21 January 2027.
