In 2022, Shaun Hamilton, the Farnley Paedophile, who used a susceptible teenage girl in Leeds and lavished her with presents, commenced a five-year prison term.

Shaun Hamilton was convicted at Leeds Crown Court of two counts of engaging in sexual contact with a minor. He was acquitted of four additional charges.

The 34-year-old, devoid of prior offences, engaged with the minor in 2018, complimenting her by stating she was attractive and gorgeous, and presented her with gifts. He subsequently engaged in a sexual relationship with the girl before her 14th birthday.

Initially, when social services, education, and health services expressed concerns, the victim felt unable to interact with law enforcement or partner agencies; nevertheless, she subsequently came forward to provide an account after terminating contact with Shaun Hamilton.

Officers from the Leeds District Safeguarding Unit initiated an investigation into child sexual exploitation. They conducted thorough enquiries to establish a comprehensive evidential framework of his offences against the girl, leading to his charges and subsequent conviction.

During a court appearance from HMP Leeds, where he has been detained on remand since his conviction in October, Judge Robin Mairs stated to Shaun Hamilton: “You effectively groomed her.” It profoundly affected her, and she remains distressed by it. Although she was a problematic individual before your exploitation, I cannot attribute all the blame to you.

Shaun Hamilton, residing at Whincover Gardens, Farnley, received a five-year prison sentence, a five-year sexual harm prevention order (SHPO), and is mandated to register as a sex offender for life.

Following the conviction, Detective Inspector Al Cheyne of the Leeds District Safeguarding Unit stated: “Shaun Hamilton sexually exploited this vulnerable young girl while being more than twice her age and was undoubtedly cognisant of the offences he was perpetrating against her.

“We anticipate that this will offer some solace to the victim and her family, knowing that he has been held accountable for his actions and incarcerated.”

“We encourage all individuals who have experienced child sexual exploitation, or who have concerns regarding another person, to step forward.”
