Katie Beaumont, aged 22, of Stevenage, Hertfordshire, has avoided an immediate prison sentence at Stevenage Magistrates’ Court after admitting to killing a cat by violently throwing the pet against a wall.
The prosecution outlined that Beaumont subjected the animal to severe physical violence, throwing the cat into a wall with sufficient impact force to inflict fatal injuries.
Following the impact, the cat died from the trauma sustained, with the court hearing that Beaumont acted callously by immediately walking away from the scene without checking on the animal or demonstrating any remorse for her conduct.
Beaumont appeared before the magistrates’ bench where she entered a formal guilty plea to one count of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal under the Animal Welfare Act.
Despite the fatal consequences of the abuse, the magistrates determined that the threshold for immediate custody would not be applied.
Instead, the bench imposed a community order running until 25 August 2027.
As part of the community order requirements, Beaumont must complete a 12-month mental health treatment requirement, participate in up to 20 days of rehabilitation activity requirements, and remain under regular supervision with a designated responsible officer from the Probation Service.
Furthermore, magistrates issued an order disqualifying Beaumont from owning, keeping, participating in the keeping of, or having any influence over the way animals are kept, with the ban imposed indefinitely for life.
