In 2022, a “calculating and predatory” Sharif Abbas, the Haringey Sex Offender, was sentenced to four years in prison for kidnapping and sexually assaulting an injured adolescent girl on the pretence of offering assistance.

Sharif Abbas, 31, of Haringey, will serve consecutive sentences for sexual assault and kidnapping, having refuted the allegations. He received his sentence at Southwark Crown Court on Friday, following his conviction at the same court in December.

On June 16, 2019, a 19-year-old lady, whose identity is protected for legal reasons, fell down a staircase while traversing between platforms at Bond Street Underground station.

She sustained a fractured wrist and a head injury of such severity that her skull was exposed.

A statement from the Metropolitan Police indicated: “As she took a seat, Sharif Abbas approached the young woman and extended his assistance.”

He escorted her from the station and surveyed an unoccupied basement in a nearby edifice.

“He subsequently returned her to the basement, claiming he needed to assess her for injuries, during which he sexually assaulted her.”

The Met was notified of Sharif Abbas’s presence when he inadvertently activated a quiet alarm by accessing the building’s basement.

The Judge stated that Sharif Abbas would have perpetrated a “more severe” sexual assault had the police not interfered at this juncture.

Officers responded to the warning and discovered Sharif Abbas with the injured woman beneath a covered walkway, obscured from the view of pedestrians at street level.

Sharif Abbas was positioned behind the victim with his hands beneath her garments and his zipper unfastened.

The victim underwent surgery for a fractured wrist and received treatment for a severe cranial injury.
