In 2022, Olaoluwa Olugbodi, a Nigerian Sex Offender and British Guest, assaulted his victims multiple times between February 8 and March 16, 2021, while employed by the north-east care organisation Craigard Care.
A disturbing carer who sexually attacked two female coworkers over a period of six weeks has been disqualified from practice.
Olaoluwa Olugbodi, a Nigerian national, assaulted his victims multiple times between February 8 and March 16, 2021, while employed by the north-east care organisation Craigard Care.
He assaulted his initial victim between February 8 and March 5, grasping her body and touching her before grinding against her. He subsequently attempted to kiss her while uttering lascivious remarks regarding her physique.
The Aberdeen resident subsequently targeted his second victim between February 15 and March 16, seizing her, attempting to kiss her, and forcing his genitalia against her. He was convicted of two charges of sexual assault at Aberdeen Sheriff Court earlier this year, prompting the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) to reassess his fitness to serve as a care worker.
Watchdogs determined that his conduct was “fundamentally incompatible” with his employment in the area. Olaoluwa Olugbodi was allowed to contest his case in a formal hearing but chose to decline, resulting in a complete prohibition from care work.
The SSSC stated in a written verdict that Olaoluwa Olugbodi had committed a “serious breach of trust” and had neither understanding nor regret. The regulator expressed worries about the likelihood of his repeated behaviour.
The judgment stated: “You [Olaoluwa Olugbodi] have been found guilty of two sexual assault offences.” Your mistreatment was aimed at coworkers and resulted in significant sorrow and anguish for them. Sexual motives evidently drove the conduct.
Your conduct significantly deviated from the anticipated standards, […] was inherently incompatible with professional registration, and violated the core principles required within the social service profession. Considering the gravity of your convictions and the history of sexual abuse, we assess that there is a danger of recurrence of such activity.
Olugbodi departed from his position at Craigard Care in March 2021, as indicated by his online profile. When asked for a statement, he refuted the allegations of sexual assault against the women, notwithstanding his conviction for the crimes.
A representative from Craigard Care stated: “Female employees reported Mr Olaoluwa Olugbodi to their supervisor for purported sexual harassment in the workplace.” We regard such accusations with utmost seriousness and promptly initiated an internal inquiry into the allegations, while also assisting the staff members in reporting their claims to the Police.
“After conducting our internal investigation, we concluded that the allegations were both credible and serious.” Mr Olaoluwa Olugbodi was subsequently terminated with immediate effect on March 16, 2021.
We were gratified by the ruling of the Aberdeen Sheriff Court, which affirmed our staff members’ claims and convicted Mr Olaoluwa Olugbodi of the charges against him in February 2022. We are gratified that, following our notification to the Scottish Social Services Council’s Fitness to Practice division of Mr Olugbodi in March 2021, he has been removed from their registry and prohibited from engaging with vulnerable individuals.
It is imperative that we, as employers, do not condone such behaviour in the workplace, and it is equally essential that individuals exhibiting such conduct are barred from employment in the care sector.
