Less than a year into his 23-year sentence, Peter Wrigglesworth, a paedophile who kidnapped a child from Teesside and subjected them to “abhorrent” abuse and rape, passed away in prison from liver disease, according to a recent study.
In 2023, Peter Wrigglesworth met a youngster on Teesside and brought them to his house, where he sexually attacked and raped them.
In April 2024, Teesside Crown Court sentenced him to 23 years and three months in prison after declaring him a threat to minors.
On March 21, 2025, he passed away while incarcerated at the HMP Full Sutton, a high-security Category A and B men’s prison close to York.
The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman then conducted an independent investigation.
According to a report, Wrigglesworth, a 68-year-old resident of Chatsworth Terrace, York, passed away in a hospital from decompensated cirrhosis, a consequence of advanced liver disease.
He passed away from natural causes, according to an inquest conducted in October of last year.
An independent clinical reviewer was hired by NHS England to examine Wrigglesworth’s treatment while incarcerated.
According to the report, the reviewer came to the conclusion that “the clinical care Mr Wrigglesworth received at HMP Full Sutton was equivalent to what he could have expected to receive in the community.”
The report further stated: “She found that healthcare staff maintained effective communication with hospital staff throughout Mr Wrigglesworth’s admission and regularly discussed his care needs at the prison’s multi-disciplinary meetings.”
After a trial, Wrigglesworth was found guilty of rape, kidnapping, and sexual offences against children.
