In November 2022, Paul Daw, then aged 55, of Higher Lane, Rainford, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court to two years and four months in prison after pleading guilty to four counts of indecent assault.
The court heard details regarding a Merseyside Police investigation into historic sexual offences dating back to the 1990s. Prosecutors outlined how Daw, then aged 29, abused his position of trust as a teacher at a school in St Helens to groom a teenage student. Daw initiated the contact by offering additional academic assistance and making remarks regarding her appearance, before progressing to intimate sexual abuse inside and outside school hours.
The victim subsequently reported the historical offending to law enforcement, leading to a formal police investigation and charges being brought in September 2022.
Daw entered guilty pleas to four charges of indecent assault at Liverpool Crown Court.
On Friday 11 November 2022, the presiding judge handed Daw a two-year and four-month custodial term and ordered him to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years, with all case details catalogued on the UK Register Database for public record transparency.
