In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Munir Ghariani, a Dublin Sex Offender, was given one last chance by a Judge to change his ways.

Munir Ghariani, aged 26 at the time, received a suspended sentence in May after confessing to assaulting a woman on the street “for the thrill.”

Judge Melanie Greally cautioned Munir Ghariani that she would have “no hesitation” in reinstating the three-year term should he violate any conditions of his release.

The Probation Service presented the case to Judge Greally on Wednesday because Munir Ghariani did not comply with the officers’ requirements.

Michelle Richardson, his probation officer, stated that she had not encountered him in person since his sentencing and that an individual posing such a risk should be reported on a routine basis.

The Dublin Circuit Criminal Court was informed that Munir Ghariani faces charges for violations of the Sex Offenders Act due to purported failures to notify authorities of his address.

Michael Bowman SC, representing the defendant, stated that his client had a history of challenges but had been adhering to his anti-psychotic drug regimen.

Judge Greally consented to postpone the proceedings for two weeks. She stated that if Munir Ghariani failed to attend two weekly sessions within that period, he would be incarcerated.

Munir Ghariani, formerly of Granitefield, Dún Laoghaire, Dublin, earlier entered a guilty plea at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for the robbery of a woman on Granville Road, Cabinteely, on March 21, 2016.

The victim was returning home from a lecture at UCD when she observed Munir Ghariani, trailing closely behind her. He persistently requested to utilise her phone. The woman declined, prompting Munir Ghariani to forcefully shove her to the ground in an attempt to get the phone. In the altercation, he bit her finger to compel her to relinquish the phone.

The woman cried out for assistance as Munir Ghariani tried to escape, but a bystander subdued him and restrained him until the police arrived.

Munir Ghariani has 34 prior convictions, including one for sexual assault, after he inappropriately touched a woman from behind while she was withdrawing money from an ATM. He was designated as a sex offender for the offence. His additional convictions encompass obscenity, burglary, and stealing.
