In 2021, Kyle Walklate, a then-28-year-old homeless man from Stoke, was jailed for a total of 10 years, including seven years in prison and three years on extended licence, after being convicted of sexually abusing young children.
Kyle Walklate, of no fixed abode, appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court for sentencing after being convicted in his absence following a trial he failed to attend. The court heard that Walklate sexually abused a child under the age of five while another young child was present, instructing the victim to keep the abuse a secret from their parents. The court deemed Walklate a high-risk and dangerous offender who poses a serious risk of harm to the public.
Judge Paul Glenn sentenced Walklate to a seven-year custodial sentence with an additional three-year extended licence period. The judge also imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) prohibiting Walklate from having unsupervised contact with children under the age of 16.
Following his convictions for child sexual offences, Walklate was ordered to remain on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
He also remains subject to statutory public protection notification requirements, lifetime licence supervision, and mandatory risk management protocols upon any eventual release from custody.
