Kes Caves, aged 32, of Queens Way, Kintbury, Hungerford, Berkshire, was sentenced to three years and three months in prison at Reading Crown Court on Thursday, 23 July 2026, after pleading guilty to multiple domestic abuse and harassment charges.
The court heard that between 1 June 2023 and 28 December 2025, Caves engaged in a sustained pattern of controlling and coercive behaviour towards a woman in her thirties in Newbury. Caves exerted dictatorial control over the victim’s daily life, constantly monitoring her location, interrogating her regarding her social interactions, and controlling the clothing she was permitted to wear. His abusive conduct escalated into physical violence on multiple occasions, inflicting physical injuries through acts including headbutting and biting.
On 27 December 2025, Caves carried out a severe physical attack on the victim, causing actual bodily harm after biting her on the shoulder. During the same incident, Caves attempted to assault the woman with a hammer and forcibly prevented her from exiting the property. Thames Valley Police officers responded to the incident and executed his initial arrest on 27 December 2025.
Following his release under investigation, Caves initiated a campaign of stalking between 26 December 2025 and 20 February 2026. Caves posted targeted content on social media platforms, sent unwanted gifts and money, contacted the victim’s family and friends, and repeatedly showed up at locations where he anticipated the victim would be present.
Detectives from Thames Valley Police’s Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit re-arrested Caves on 20 February 2026, securing formal charges on the same day.
Appearing at Reading Crown Court, Caves entered guilty pleas to two counts of controlling or coercive behaviour, one count of actual bodily harm, and one count of stalking with fear of violence. Investigating officer DC Poppy Bulger commended the victim’s exceptional courage throughout the investigation and legal proceedings.
