In 2019, Kabirul Islam, then aged 41, of High Street South, Dunstable, Bedfordshire, was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment (48 months) at Luton Crown Court after being convicted of sexually assaulting a young girl.
The conviction followed an investigation by Bedfordshire Police into multiple sexual assaults committed against a female child under 13 years of age during an incident in July 2019.
The court heard that while the assaults were taking place, the victim immediately recognised that Islam’s actions were wrongful and bravely alerted an adult.
This disclosure prompted an immediate report to law enforcement, which resulted in Islam being arrested, questioned, and subsequently charged.
Islam denied the allegations but was convicted by a jury following a trial at Luton Crown Court.
Islam was found guilty of:
- One count of assaulting a girl under the age of 13 by penetration
- Two counts of assaulting a girl under the age of 13 by touching
On Wednesday, 27 November 2019, the presiding judge handed down a custodial sentence of four years’ imprisonment.
The court also ordered that Islam be made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) that will take effect upon his discharge from custody, placing stringent conditions and restrictions on his activities to safeguard children from potential harm.
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation governing sexual offences, Islam was required to serve two-thirds (32 months / 2 years and 8 months) of his 48-month sentence in prison custody before becoming eligible for statutory release on licence, with the remaining 16 months served under community supervision.
