In 2021, John Hewitt, a then 74-year-old man from Preston, near Hull, was jailed following a police investigation into historic sexual offences against children.
John Hewitt, of Preston, was sentenced at Grimsby Crown Court on Tuesday, 22 June 2021, to 24 years in prison after being convicted by a jury of 19 counts, including rape, indecent assault, and indecency involving children.
The court heard that the offences took place during the 1980s in Hull and Hessle against three victims who showed great resolve in testifying. Detectives meticulously pieced together the evidence spanning four decades to bring the case to trial and secure a unanimous verdict. Passing sentence, the judge condemned Hewitt for his complete lack of remorse and the prolonged distress caused to the victims over many years.
