Steven Booker, of Rhydwen Drive, Rhyl, was sentenced at Mold Crown Court to two years and six months in prison after being convicted of historic offences dating back to 1990. His co-accused, Nicholas Roberts, also 46, of Cheltenham Avenue, Rhyl, received a total sentence of three and a half years’ imprisonment for related historic counts.
The case was brought to justice after the victim bravely came forward years after the incident occurred, prompting a thorough police enquiry into events that took place in a public wood. The judge highlighted the lifelong impact of the offending when passing sentence on both men, noting that time does not erase criminal liability. The court heard how the trauma had affected the victims throughout their adult lives before legal resolution was finally achieved. Judges commended the victims for their resilience throughout the lengthy legal process.
In addition to their custodial terms, both defendants were handed strict court orders. Both men were made subject to lifelong restraining orders preventing any direct or indirect contact with the victims.
