James Murray, the Weston-Super-Mare Rapist, a 45-year-old man, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for sexually assaulting a vulnerable woman.
James Murray, a resident of Weston-super-Mare, has received a nine-year prison sentence after admitting to four counts of sexual assault, one act of perverting the course of justice, and careless driving.
On Friday, October 17, Bristol Crown Court was informed that paramedics were summoned to a residence in Weston-super-Mare where a woman was experiencing difficulties.
Subsequent enquiries revealed that the woman reported James Murray had sexually attacked her while she was incapacitated and unable to provide permission.
The court was informed that James Murray had recorded the abuse on his phone for personal enjoyment.
Subsequent to his incarceration, James Murray contacted the victim and dispatched several letters in an effort to dissuade her from initiating prosecution and requested that she cease communication with law enforcement.
The court was informed that, in a separate incident, James Murray drove recklessly, nearly colliding with two pedestrians after slamming into a nearby fence and departing before the police arrived.
In his statement, His Honour Judge Burgess KC characterised the circumstances as ‘distressing’ and challenging to understand, and deemed the treatment of the victim as ‘degrading’.
He informed James Murray that he had shown ‘utter disregard for her and her emotions’ and utilised the victim as an ‘inanimate object’ for his own ‘deviant pleasure’.
James Murray will be subject to a lifetime registration on the Sex Offenders Register, in addition to his prison sentence, thereby prohibiting him from engaging in employment involving vulnerable children or adults in the future.
Furthermore, he received a 15-year restraining order and nine points on his provisional licence.
