In 2026, convicted child sex trafficker Sharam Muhamadi, then aged 21, formally of Hexthorpe Road, was extradited back to the United Kingdom after fleeing the country during his trial.
The court heard that Muhamadi was originally charged with human trafficking offences and remanded into custody. However, following a defense application, he was granted court bail. On Monday 18 May 2026, Muhamadi failed to attend his scheduled trial proceedings.
On 9 June 2026, a crown court jury convicted Muhamadi in his absence of two counts of arranging or facilitating the travel of another person with a view to exploitation.
South Yorkshire Police launched an extensive international manhunt to locate the fugitive. Investigating officers tracked Muhamadi’s movements from Yorkshire to the West Midlands before finding him in Switzerland.
Working with international law enforcement partners, officers secured Muhamadi’s arrest and completed formal extradition proceedings.
