Amardip ‘Amo’ Dhariwal, then aged 55, of Derley Road, Southall, West London, was unanimously convicted of sexual assault by penetration at Reading Crown Court on Tuesday, 1 September 2026.
The conviction follows an investigation by Thames Valley Police into an offence committed at Dhariwal’s property in Bracknell, Berkshire, in May 2022.
The court heard that Dhariwal, who worked as an in-flight cabin crew lead for British Airways at the time, invited a female colleague in her twenties to his home.
After socialising during the evening, the victim fell asleep on the sofa and woke the following morning to discover Dhariwal sexually assaulting her without her consent.
Fearing how Dhariwal would react if challenged, the victim remained motionless until Dhariwal ceased the assault and walked upstairs, whereupon she fled the house, contacted a friend, and alerted the police.
Dhariwal was initially charged by postal requisition on 9 May 2024. An earlier trial in May 2025 resulted in a hung jury, prompting a retrial.
During the nine-day retrial, jurors heard bad character evidence from two other female British Airways cabin crew members regarding alleged sexual assaults in Singapore in 2020 and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2018. While charges relating to those allegations were discontinued due to jurisdiction limits outside England and Wales, the evidence was admitted to assist the jury in evaluating propensity.
Following deliberations, the 11-person jury unanimously convicted Dhariwal of:
- One count of sexual assault by penetration
Investigating officer Detective Constable Clare Hickman commended the courage and dignity shown by the victim and the supporting witnesses throughout the proceedings.
The court released Dhariwal on conditional bail to return to Reading Crown Court for sentencing on 29 October 2026.
