A 48-year-old Lincolnshire woman has been sentenced to a 12-month community order at Lincoln District Magistrates’ Court after admitting to sexually assaulting a schoolboy in public.

Emma Louise Burton, residing in Lincoln, appeared in the dock on 8 October 2026, having changed her plea to guilty on the day her trial was scheduled to commence.

The prosecution outlined that Burton had initially targeted the young victim by making verbal threats to grab his private parts. Approximately one month after making the threat, Burton encountered the schoolboy in a public location and carried out the sexual assault, grabbing and molesting him.

The incident was captured on CCTV footage, providing detectives with key visual evidence documenting the assault. Despite the recorded evidence, Burton entered a not guilty plea during earlier hearings, maintaining her denial throughout case preparation. On the first morning of the trial, she formally abandoned her defence and entered a guilty plea to sexual assault on a male.

Under the provisions of the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 1992, the child victim is protected by mandatory, lifelong statutory anonymity. Any publication, broadcast, or public dissemination of information capable of leading to his identification is strictly prohibited under UK law.

Sentencing Burton at Lincoln District Magistrates’ Court, the bench ordered her to complete a 12-month community order. Under the terms of the order, Burton will remain under probation supervision and is required to comply with all lawful instructions, appointments, and rehabilitative activities directed by her supervising officer.

Financial penalties were also imposed, including a £400 fine, £114 in prosecution costs, and an additional statutory court payment of £162, amounting to £676 in total financial orders.

Furthermore, magistrates ordered that Burton be made subject to statutory notification requirements under the Sexual Offences Act 2003, placing her on the Sex Offenders Register for a duration of five years.
