A 39-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 months’ imprisonment at Chester Crown Court after pleading guilty to historic child sexual offences committed in Macclesfield more than two decades ago.

Daley Sweeney, currently of HMP Dovegate, appeared for sentence on Friday 16 October 2026 following an investigation conducted by Cheshire Constabulary.

The prosecution outlined that the offending occurred on two separate occasions in June 2002, during which Sweeney subjected a boy under the age of 16 to sexual abuse.

The matter was reported to police by the survivor, prompting specialist detectives to commence an inquiry into the historic offences. Investigators gathered corroborating statements and compiled an evidential file that resulted in criminal charges being brought against Sweeney.

Sweeney entered formal guilty pleas to two counts of indecent assault on a boy under 16 years of age.

Detective Constable Steph Darbyshire commended the survivor’s resolve:
“Firstly, I would like to commend the bravery of the victim in this case for reporting what had happened to him. Throughout this investigation, Sweeney has refused to take accountability for his actions, showing no remorse for what he had subjected the victim to. But thanks to the casefile of evidence gathered against him, he had no option but to plead guilty.
“The sentence handed to Sweeney reflects the severity of his crimes and I hope that this result will encourage other victims to come forward. As this case demonstrates, we treat all reports of historic sexual offences seriously, with the wishes and needs of the victim as our main priority, and any allegations will be thoroughly investigated.”

Passing sentence, the Crown Court judge handed Sweeney an immediate custodial term of 20 months’ imprisonment.

The court also ordered that Sweeney comply with notification requirements on the Sex Offenders Register and remain subject to strict post-release supervision and barring measures preventing any future work involving children or vulnerable adults.
