In 2026, the Offender Register reported that Brian Heron, a Peterborough Paedophile, 78, passed away in a hospital while serving his sentence at HMP Frankland in Brasside, near Durham city.

Heron, a paedophile who sexually abused a child “hundreds of times,” was incarcerated at the high-security facility.

On numerous occasions, he was reported to have expressed his aversion to prison life and his certainty that he would not survive his sentence.

In August 2019, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison at Cambridge Crown Court for two charges of rape of a boy under the age of 16 and five counts of indecent assault of a boy under the age of 14.

At that time, Cambridgeshire Police reported that Heron, a resident of London Road in Peterborough, initiated the catalogue of abuse directed at the boy in 1980.

The first time it occurred, he informed the boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, that it would be “their secret” and that others would be “jealous” if they were aware.

The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman’s report on Heron’s death, which was published in June, indicated that the Coroner had determined that he died of natural causes.

The cause of his death was respiratory failure, which was the result of a respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection, in the context of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
