Boer Ahmad, a 19-year-old man from Hythe, has been handed a suspended prison sentence after lying about his age to groom and sexually assault a 13-year-old child.
Ahmad, of Knightwood Road, Hythe, appeared at Southampton Crown Court after pleading guilty to the offences. The court heard that Ahmad, who was 18 at the time, deceived his victim by claiming he was 15 years old to facilitate the grooming process. Defence counsel highlighted Ahmad’s difficult upbringing in Sweden, where he suffered physical abuse from his stepfather, and noted that since moving to the UK in 2019, he had been attending college and working.
Judge William Mousley KC acknowledged the defendant’s background but stressed the gravity of the offences. Concluding that there was a realistic prospect of rehabilitation, the judge sentenced Ahmad to 27 months in prison, suspended for three years. The sentence includes a requirement to complete 180 hours of unpaid work and 20 rehabilitation activity sessions.
In addition to the suspended sentence, Ahmad was ordered to pay £2,000 in compensation to the victim.
He was also made subject to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and a 10-year restraining order to protect the victim and ensure strict ongoing monitoring of his conduct.
