Angelos Ntolakai, aged 23, of Manston Road, Ramsgate, Kent, has been sentenced to five years and seven months’ imprisonment at Canterbury Crown Court after being convicted of raping a teenage girl who had fallen asleep at a Halloween party.
The assault took place on the night of 29 October 2022 at a private residential property in Ramsgate.
The court heard the teenage victim became unwell during the social gathering and went to rest in a friend’s bed to sleep and recover.
Ntolakai, a Greek national attending the same party, targeted the teenager in her vulnerable state.
He entered the bedroom, physically restrained the victim by holding her down, and carried out a violent sexual assault.
Immediately after the ordeal, the victim fled the room and disclosed the assault to a friend, who dialled 999.
Officers from Kent Police attended the scene and launched a comprehensive criminal investigation led by specialist detectives.
Forensic teams gathered DNA evidence from the scene, which directly linked Ntolakai to the offence.
Investigators also examined digital evidence, including photographs and videos taken by partygoers, which established Ntolakai’s presence and timeline within the premises when the attack occurred.
Ntolakai was formally arrested on 15 March 2023.
When questioned by detectives, he offered “no comment” responses to all formal questions.
He subsequently entered a not guilty plea, maintaining that excessive alcohol consumption impaired his recollection of the night, while claiming that any physical encounter must have been consensual.
The case proceeded to trial at Canterbury Crown Court, where the victim was required to give evidence during a four-day hearing.
The jury rejected Ntolakai’s claims and returned a unanimous verdict finding him guilty of rape.
On Thursday, 17 September, the trial judge sentenced Ntolakai to five years and seven months (67 months) in prison custody.
In addition to the custodial term, Ntolakai was made subject to the notification requirements of the Sex Offenders Register for an indefinite period (for life).
Release Calculation: Under UK determinate sentencing legislation governing sentences under seven years for sexual offences of this nature, statutory release applies at the halfway point. Ntolakai will serve one-half (approximately 33.5 months / two years and nine and a half months) of his sentence in prison custody before becoming eligible for automatic release on licence to serve the remaining term under the supervision of the Probation Service.
