In 2026, Adrian Vermaak, a man from Stoke-on-Trent, was jailed for three and a half years after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a young girl over a period of several years.
Vermaak appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, where a jury convicted him of assault of a child by touching and sexual assault on a female. The court heard that Vermaak systematically exploited the victim, using excuses to engage in physical play as a pretext to mask his ongoing abuse of the child.
Following the conviction, the judge sentenced Vermaak to three and a half years in prison. In addition to the custodial sentence, the court imposed:
Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO): To manage ongoing risks and restrict his activities upon release.
Restraining Order: To prohibit contact with the victim and ensure her protection.
Victim Surcharge: An order to pay £190 following his release.
