In 2026, Aaron Sarwar, then aged 28, of Harrington Heights, Houghton Regis, Bedfordshire, was sentenced to nine years’ imprisonment (108 months) at Luton Crown Court following convictions for multiple child sexual offences.
The sentencing concluded an extensive inquiry conducted by Bedfordshire Police into predatory online grooming and direct physical abuse.
The court heard that Sarwar initiated contact with the young victim through the multimedia messaging application Snapchat.
To disarm the child and lower her defences, Sarwar fabricated an elaborate cover story, telling her that he was an 18-year-old gay man who did not have many friends.
Sarwar maintained the grooming dialogue over a period of weeks, establishing a relationship before arranging face-to-face meetings.
Once in-person contact was established, Sarwar subjected the child to repeated sexual abuse across multiple dates.
A subsequent police investigation uncovered evidence that Sarwar was also involved in the handling of indecent child abuse imagery.
Following legal proceedings at Luton Crown Court, Sarwar was convicted of:
- Five counts of sexual activity with a child
- Three counts of penetrative sexual activity with a child
- Multiple counts of possessing or making indecent images of children
Detective Sergeant Sabrina D’Amelio from Bedfordshire Police stated that the sentence reflected the appalling nature of Sarwar’s crimes, emphasising the force’s focus on removing dangerous predators from the community while providing support to victims and their families.
The court imposed a cumulative custodial sentence of nine years’ imprisonment.
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation governing serious sexual offences carrying long determinate terms, Sarwar is required to serve two-thirds (72 months / 6 years) of his 108-month sentence in prison custody before becoming eligible for statutory release on licence. His earliest release eligibility date falls in September 2032, whereupon he will remain subject to licence conditions, supervision by the Probation Service, and notification requirements under the Sex Offenders Register for the remaining three years of the term until September 2035.
