In 2025, a man from Hinckley was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment at Leicester Crown Court after pleading guilty to an indictment containing nine offences involving child sexual abuse and indecent images.
Danny Hayward, residing at Sisley Road, Hinckley, appeared before the court for sentencing on 16 June 2025.
The prosecution detailed that Hayward engaged in criminal conduct spanning a significant period across several addresses located within Leicestershire and Warwickshire. The indictment included repeated acts of penetrative sexual abuse against a 14-year-old female victim.
The court was told that following Hayward’s initial arrest by police in 2022, forensic investigators examined his seized digital devices. Technicians uncovered a collection exceeding 400 indecent images of children. The material included disturbing photographs depicting newborn infants and young children, alongside extreme pornography depicting animals subjected to sexual abuse.
Hayward, who previously worked for Cadent Gas, entered formal guilty pleas to nine offences:
Two counts of penetrative sexual activity with a child, contrary to Section 9(1) of the Sexual Offences Act 2003
Three counts of making indecent photographs of a child, contrary to Section 1(1)(a) of the Protection of Children Act 1978
One count of taking indecent photographs of a child, contrary to Section 1(1)(a) of the Protection of Children Act 1978
One count of possession of a prohibited image of a child, contrary to Section 62(1) of the Coroners and Justice Act 2009
One count of possession of an extreme pornographic image, contrary to Section 63(1) of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008
One count of showing an indecent photograph of a child, contrary to Section 1(1)(c) of the Protection of Children Act 1978
During the sentencing proceedings, the defence submitted character references from family and associates. The presiding judge noted that the abuse took place across multiple jurisdictions and involved serious statutory breaches against a child.
Passing sentence, the Crown Court judge handed Hayward an immediate custodial term of three years’ imprisonment.
In addition to the custodial sentence, the court made Hayward subject to a 10-year restraining order and ordered his inclusion on the Sex Offenders Register. Hayward is scheduled for release under statutory licence conditions in December 2026.
