A man from the Essex area has been sentenced to seven and a half years’ imprisonment at Inner London Crown Court after being convicted by a jury of attempting to rape a three-year-old child and committing multiple acts of sexual indecency.

Kevin Quinlan appeared for sentence on Monday 12 October 2026 after standing trial on an indictment detailing severe sexual offences committed against a toddler.

The prosecution presented evidence demonstrating that Quinlan targeted a three-year-old child, carrying out repeated acts of sexual abuse culminating in an attempt to rape her. Jurors deliberated and returned guilty verdicts on all nine counts on the indictment:

Eight counts of indecency with a child (including four multiple counts)

One count of attempted rape

Following the conclusion of the trial, sentencing was listed for 12 October 2026 to allow the Probation Service time to complete formal risk assessments and pre-sentence reports, and to permit the presiding judge to examine sentencing guidelines. Quinlan was granted bail during the intervening period.

At the formal sentencing hearing, the judge addressed the extreme vulnerability of the three-year-old victim and the profound violation involved in the offences, sentencing Quinlan to a total term of seven and a half years’ imprisonment. The court ordered that he must serve a minimum term of five years in custody before becoming eligible to apply for release on licence under the supervision of the Parole Board.

In addition to the custodial sentence, the court made Quinlan subject to notification requirements on the Sex Offenders Register for life. The judge also granted a Sexual Harm Prevention Order with stringent prohibitions, specifically barring him from approaching or being in the vicinity of any child under the age of 16, alongside barring him indefinitely from any form of regulated activity involving children or vulnerable adults.

Heightened public safety concerns have emerged following reports that Quinlan is active in the community, with reports alleging that he is on the prowl in the South Ockendon area of Essex.
