A 38-year-old man has been handed an 18-year extended sentence at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court after admitting to 16 child sexual offences committed against four young girls.
David Hulse, of no fixed address, appeared for sentence on Tuesday 20 October 2026 following an extensive and complex investigation conducted by Greater Manchester Police.
The prosecution detailed that Hulse engaged in a calculated course of grooming, incitement, and digital abuse targeting four separate young female victims. The inquiry revealed that Hulse initiated illicit sexual communications with children, incited a girl under the age of 13 into sexual activity, and accumulated extreme pornography portraying acts of intercourse.
Digital forensic examinations further established that Hulse actively produced and disseminated illicit material involving children, uncovering numerous files that he had created and distributed across digital networks.
Hulse entered formal guilty pleas to all 16 charges on the indictment:
Two counts of engaging in sexual communication with a child
Two counts of causing or inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity (no penetration)
Six counts of making an indecent photograph or pseudo-photograph of a child
Two counts of possessing an extreme pornographic image portraying an act of intercourse
Four counts of distributing an indecent photograph or pseudo-photograph of a child
Passing sentence on 20 October 2026, the Crown Court judge addressed the predatory nature of Hulse’s actions, the vulnerability of the four victims, and the substantial risk he posed to young people. Finding him to be a dangerous offender, the court imposed an extended sentence of 18 years, comprising 15 years’ immediate imprisonment followed by an extended licence period of three years. Under statutory provisions for dangerous offenders, Hulse must serve at least two-thirds of the 15-year custodial term behind bars before the Parole Board will consider him for release on licence.
To protect the public indefinitely upon his release, the court granted an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), placed him on the Sex Offenders Register for life, and barred him permanently from working with children or vulnerable adults.
