A paedophile who was imprisoned for using AI software to “nudify” thousands of child photos was frequently permitted to return to his house, which had a view of the playground he had targeted.
It meant that Zafer Dogan, a 32-year-old who admitted to several crimes, had victims who lived nearby in Enfield, north London.
Dogan is a mechanic who has already entered guilty pleas to several charges, including creating pornographic pictures of children.
He had shot over 5,000 photos, many of which were taken from his bedroom window, according to the authorities.
Investigators discovered that Dogan had taken pictures of women and children in everyday situations before applying AI to transform them into images that were sexually explicit, including by taking off their clothes.
His bedroom window, which looked out onto a kids’ playground, was used to take several of the pictures. Other images seem to indicate that he also pursued local schoolchildren and women.
Officers still need to identify many more people, although a small number of those captured on camera have been identified and are receiving specialised assistance. Potential victim-survivors are being urged to come forward.
“Our lives will never be the same again and I can’t do anything about it all because one man exploited my child,” the mother of a victim under the age of eight said, describing herself as “helpless.”
When authorities told the mother of a teenage victim what had transpired, she described it as being like being “punched in the gut.”
She also stated: “I’m really worried that my daughter’s photos are online and other paedophiles have them.”
