Simon David Evans, aged 39, has been handed a six-year extended sentence at Stafford Crown Court after being convicted of multiple sexual offences against a girl under the age of 13.
The investigation was initiated by Staffordshire Police after a family member of the young survivor came forward to report the sexual abuse to law enforcement.
Under UK law, all victims of sexual offences are protected by lifelong statutory anonymity.
Evans entered not guilty pleas to the allegations, taking the case to trial.
Following deliberations, the jury found him guilty on all five counts on the indictment:
- One count of sexual assault of a girl under 13
- Four counts of sexual assault by touching of a girl under 13
Appearing for sentencing on Friday, 18 September, the judge assessed Evans as posing a significant risk of serious harm, imposing an extended sentence of six years.
In addition to the custodial sentence, the court granted a 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and ordered Evans to comply with the requirements of the Sex Offenders Register.
Release Calculation: Because Evans received an extended determinate sentence under dangerous offender provisions, automatic release at the halfway mark does not apply. Evans is required to serve a minimum of two-thirds of his custodial term in prison custody before becoming eligible to apply to the Parole Board. Release will only be granted if the Parole Board determines the risk he poses can be safely managed in the community under the supervision of the Probation Service.
