Detective Sergeant Prakash Patel, then attached to the Metropolitan Police’s North West Command Unit, appeared before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 4 September 2026, charged with multiple counts of sexual assault.
Patel was formally charged on 24 July following an investigation by the Central South Command Unit working in collaboration with the Metropolitan Police’s Directorate of Professional Standards.
The prosecution involves five counts of sexual assault relating to four women known to Patel.
According to court details, one of the alleged offences took place on an unspecified date in the summer of 2024.
The remaining four sexual assaults are alleged to have occurred on a single date, Tuesday, 3 December 2024.
Patel was arrested on 24 April 2025 following the launch of the inquiry and was suspended from operational duties on the same day.
Following the submission of the case file, the Crown Prosecution Service authorised:
- Five counts of sexual assault
Police confirmed that the four female complainants continue to receive ongoing support from specialist investigating officers as the legal proceedings move forward.
