Frankie Nielsen, then aged 38, of Bentinck Villas, Newcastle, was handed a 20-month suspended prison sentence at Newcastle Crown Court after being convicted of child sexual offences and illicit communication.
The prosecution followed a complex inquiry conducted by Northumbria Police’s Safeguarding Department into offences committed against a secondary school-aged girl.
The court heard that Nielsen initially sent sexually explicit messages to the child before escalating his behaviour and subjecting the victim to two physical sexual assaults.
In a victim personal statement read during the sentencing hearing, the survivor detailed the lasting emotional and psychological harm caused by the abuse, stating that she lived with daily trauma, had lost trust in others, and felt unable to walk past the scene of the assaults alone.
Following his arrest, Nielsen claimed during police interviews that he had merely sent “stupid messages”, while seeking to deny the physical sexual assaults.
Nielsen was convicted at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court of:
- Two counts of sexual assault
- One count of sexual communication with a child
At Newcastle Crown Court, the presiding judge sentenced Nielsen to 20 months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years.
The court also imposed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), ordered Nielsen to register on the Sex Offenders Register for a period of 10 years, and issued a lifelong restraining order prohibiting any contact with the victim-survivor.
