Peter Howard, aged 36, of Wallace Avenue, Worthing, West Sussex, has been sentenced to two years and two months’ imprisonment at Lewes Crown Court after pleading guilty to breaching court orders and accessing CSAM.
The court heard that Howard was an active registered sex offender subject to a suspended prison sentence for attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.
In addition to his suspended term, Howard was subject to strict conditions under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) requiring him to register all internet-enabled hardware with law enforcement.
Officers from Sussex Police’s specialist VISOR team conducted compliance monitoring and discovered that Howard had acquired an unauthorised internet device in direct violation of his SHPO.
Forensic examination of the device established that Howard had utilized the platform X.com to conduct searches for illicit material and view CSAM spanning Categories A, B, and C.
During his formal police interview, Howard admitted that he had searched for child sexual media on the internet and acknowledged that he had accessed and viewed the abusive imagery.
The court heard that Howard had prior convictions for identical behaviour, including serving a prison sentence in 2021 for attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child.
Appearing before Lewes Crown Court on 12 August 2026, Howard admitted the full indictment, pleading guilty to:
- One count of breaching a suspended sentence order
- One count of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO)
- Three counts of making or distributing indecent images of children (CSAM)
The presiding judge revoked his suspended sentence and ordered Howard to serve a total custodial term of two years and two months’ imprisonment.
