Mohammed Ahmed, aged 27, of Park Grove, Hull, East Yorkshire, has been sentenced to six years’ imprisonment at Hull Crown Court on Friday, 21 August 2026, after being convicted of attempting to incite a child into sexual activity and attempting sexual communication with a child.
The criminal investigation was launched after detectives from Humberside Police’s Police Online Investigation Team (POLIT) received an intelligence referral from the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Organised Crime Unit in June 2024. The referral identified that Ahmed had established online contact with what he genuinely believed was a vulnerable 12-year-old girl, but was in fact an undercover decoy profile.
The court heard that Ahmed engaged in persistent, sexually explicit communications with the decoy account. During the conversations, Ahmed repeatedly asked the child to be his girlfriend and actively attempted to arrange an in-person meeting, explicitly stating that once they met he would take her somewhere private and secluded inside his vehicle.
Humberside Police officers executed an arrest warrant at Ahmed’s home address in July 2024. During the search, officers recovered multiple mobile phones. Specialist digital forensic examinations verified that the seized hardware had been actively utilised to conduct the illicit messaging sessions with the decoy profile.
Ahmed pleaded not guilty to the indictment, sending the case to a week-long trial at Hull Crown Court. Following jury deliberations that concluded on 10 July 2026, Ahmed was convicted of:
- One count of attempting to cause or incite a child to engage in sexual activity
- One count of attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child
Appearing for sentence on 21 August 2026, the presiding judge handed Ahmed a custodial term of six years’ imprisonment. The court also ordered that Ahmed be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for a duration of 10 years and placed him on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.
