John Woodley-Rennie, aged 39, of Ocean Street, Plymouth, was sentenced to 16 years’ imprisonment at Plymouth Crown Court on Friday, 21 August 2026, after pleading guilty to 16 child sexual offences.
The conviction follows a joint investigation by Devon & Cornwall Police and the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU). Woodley-Rennie was initially arrested in January 2025 after travelling within Plymouth to meet an individual he believed to be a teenage boy, and was intercepted by SWROCU officers.
A subsequent inquiry commenced in July 2025 when Woodley-Rennie attended Charles Cross Police Station and disclosed that he had carried out repeated sexual abuse against a male child in the Plymouth area during the 2010s. The abuse took place over a prolonged period and was photographed and filmed by Woodley-Rennie.
Appearing before Plymouth Crown Court, Woodley-Rennie pleaded guilty to 16 offences, including:
- Taking an indecent photograph of a child
- Distributing an indecent photograph of a child
- Engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child
- Causing or inciting a boy under 13 to engage in sexual activity
- Engaging in sexual communication with a child
- Attempted sexual communication with a child
- Arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence
- Making indecent images of children
On 21 August 2026, the presiding judge handed Woodley-Rennie a total custodial sentence of 16 years’ imprisonment.
