George Scott, aged 39, of Beacon Road, Crowborough, East Sussex, was sentenced to 19 years’ imprisonment with an extended two-year licence at Lewes Crown Court on Friday, 31 July 2026, after being found guilty of 11 sexual offences against a child under 16.

The court heard that the non-recent offences occurred while Scott was working as a golf instructor. Scott abused his position of trust to groom the teenage victim before carrying out multiple serious sexual offences. The victim stated during proceedings that the abuse had resulted in a devastating and lifelong impact.

Following disclosures, Sussex Police launched an investigation into the sexual abuse and charged Scott with 11 counts. Scott pleaded not guilty, but a jury convicted him on all charges following a crown court trial.

Appearing before Lewes Crown Court, Scott was convicted of:

  • Eight counts of sexual assault by penetration
  • One count of intentionally causing a girl under 16 to engage in non-penetrative sexual activity
  • One count of causing a girl under 16 to watch a third person engaging in sexual activity
  • One count of being an adult in a position of trust who sexually touched a girl under 18 on multiple occasions

The presiding judge sentenced Scott to 19 years in custody, with an extended licence period of 2 years, requiring him to serve at least two-thirds of the term before becoming eligible for parole. The court also imposed a 25-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) restricting his contact with children and unsupervised internet-enabled devices, an indefinite restraining order, and ordered that he remain on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
