Trevor New-Watts, aged 57, of George Pope Close, Norwich, was sentenced to 19 years’ imprisonment at Norwich Crown Court on Friday, 14 August 2026, after being found guilty of multiple counts of child rape and sexual assault against a vulnerable young girl.
The court heard that the offences took place in Norwich between August 2021 and December 2022. Norfolk Constabulary commenced an investigation on 6 December 2022 following a report from the victim’s relative. The young child had made disclosures regarding the abuse, using hand-drawn illustrations to explain what had occurred and indicate where New-Watts had touched her.
Police officers arrested New-Watts on the day the report was received and seized his mobile phone, alongside additional electronic devices from his home address. Digital forensic analysis of his mobile telephone revealed search queries inquiring into how long DNA evidence would remain detectable on the human body. During formal police interviews, New-Watts answered “no comment” to all questions put to him.
New-Watts maintained his innocence and forced the case to a nine-day crown court trial in July 2026, where a jury unanimously convicted him on all counts.
Appearing before Norwich Crown Court, New-Watts was convicted of:
- Two counts of rape of a child
- Four counts of sexual assault of a child
- Two counts of causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity
Judge Mark Dennis described the offending as wicked and sentenced New-Watts to a 19-year custodial term. The court also imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), an indefinite restraining order prohibiting contact with the victim, and ordered that he remain on the sex offenders register for life.
