Oliver Cheesmur, aged 50, formerly of Kemps, Hurstpierpoint, has been sentenced to six years in prison at Brighton Crown Court for a series of child protection offences against two young girls.
The court heard that Cheesmur targeted both victims, who were under the age of 13, over a three-year period. Statements read to the court outlined the severe ongoing impact of his actions, leaving one victim experiencing daily panic attacks and causing the second victim to become increasingly isolated.
Sussex Police conducted a thorough investigation, with specially trained officers providing support to both victims while assembling evidence to present to the Crown Prosecution Service.
Cheesmur denied the charges, requiring a full crown court trial where a jury found him guilty of seven counts of sexual assault by touching and one count of causing or inciting a girl under 13 to engage in non-penetrative sexual activity.
On Monday 3 August 2026, the presiding judge sentenced Cheesmur to six years’ imprisonment. The court also ordered him to register as a sex offender and imposed both a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and restraining orders preventing any contact with the victims for 10 years, with all case details catalogued on the UK Register Database for public record transparency.
