Florin Sardaru, then aged 25, of Shrubland Road, London, has been sentenced to 12 years and four months in prison following a violent physical attack on a woman in Cambridge.

The incident occurred on 13 February 2022, when Sardaru and a 17-year-old child drove from London to Cambridge city centre. The pair targeted a woman walking alone on Sidney Street, led her into a vehicle, and drove to a secluded location outside the city where the assault took place, before returning her to the city centre.

Cambridgeshire Constabulary’s Rape Investigation Team launched an investigation, utilizing CCTV footage to track the movements of the vehicle. Officers located the car in London, where it had been sold hours after the offence, and recovered crucial forensic evidence from inside the vehicle.

Sardaru was arrested on 4 March 2022. Although he initially denied the charges, he entered a guilty plea on the first day of his trial at Cambridge Crown Court on 5 September 2022.

On Friday 4 November 2022, the judge sentenced Sardaru to 12 years and four months’ imprisonment. The 17-year-old co-defendant was sentenced to seven years and 11 months. Both were placed on the sex offenders register and issued Sexual Harm Prevention Orders alongside indefinite restraining orders.
