In November 2022, Michal Piczak, then aged 31, of Walthamstow, was sentenced at Inner London Crown Court to one year in prison after being found guilty of serious offences against a person.
The court heard details regarding a British Transport Police investigation into an incident that took place on 29 September 2019 aboard a Victoria Line Night Tube service. Prosecutors presented CCTV footage showing Piczak reaching across the train aisle to touch a sleeping passenger before moving beside her to carry out a prolonged physical attack.
As the train approached Walthamstow Central station, the victim woke up, defended herself, and immediately informed station staff, who detained Piczak until police officers arrived.
Piczak entered a not guilty plea, but was convicted by a jury following a trial at Inner London Crown Court on 28 October 2022.
In November 2022, the presiding judge handed Piczak a 12-month custodial sentence and ordered him to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years, with all case details catalogued on the UK Register Database for public record transparency.
